SAN FRANCISCO - 25 July 2018 - The Apothecarium, a family-owned medical cannabis dispensary,

announced today that the company will temporarily close their SOMA dispensary for a complete

renovation. The dispensary’s last day will be Saturday July 28th. The new store will be designed by Urban

Chalet, the same interior design firm that designed The Apothecarium’s Marina and Castro dispensaries.

The Castro location was named the best designed dispensary in the country by Architectural Digest. The

SOMA dispensary is expected to reopen in late 2018 or early 2019.

“Many people compare the look and feel of our dispensaries to a boutique hotel or a wine bar,” said

Ryan Hudson, co-founder and CEO of The Apothecarium. “We design our dispensaries with first time

guests in mind. When people come inside one of The Apothecarium’s dispensaries, we want them to

feel comfortable and at ease. We are very excited to bring a fresh new dispensary to downtown workers

and out-of-town tourists. During the renovation, we encourage our SOMA guests to try our delivery

service or to visit our Castro and Marina dispensaries.”

The newly redesigned Apothecarium SOMA will feature a mix of traditional and contemporary design –

combining many of the visual elements of the flagship Castro dispensary with new details unique to the

SOMA location. The Apothecarium SOMA is approximately 1,500 square feet.

There will be no layoffs as a result of the renovation. The architect of record for the project is Vincent

Gonzaga.

The Apothecarium runs significant community engagement programs, including:

  • Giving $350,000 in cash donations to community nonprofits since opening in 2011

  • Offering free classes on cannabis educational that are open to the public

  • Giving regular dispensary tours to physicians and other healthcare professionals
