Brain Fog isn’t a medical condition, but rather a symptom of other medical conditions. Some people will also describe it as mental fatigue. Brain Fog a type of cognitive dysfunction involving:

* Memory problems
* Inability to focus and poor concentration
* Lacking clarity and reduced attention span
* Along with anxiety, headaches, insomnia and fatigue
There are numerous explanations why Brain Fog occurs. Identifying the underlying cause is the first step. Selecting the correct cannabis product for that underlying cause is the second.

STRESS

Chronic stress can increase blood pressure, weaken the immune system, and trigger depression along with causing mental fatigue. When your brain is exhausted, it becomes harder to think, reason and focus.

TREATMENT

Utilizing the right combination of cannabinoids (THC with some CBD) and terpenes (Linalool and Bisabolol) that will provide a relaxing feeling allowing the stress to melt away and let the body relax. THC can relax the body and muscles while CBD helps reduce anxiety. Linalool and Bisabolol are two terpenes that have relaxing and calming properties which make them beneficial when treating stress.

LACK OF SLEEP

Poor sleep quality can interfere with how well your brain functions. When you’re sleeping is when your body has a chance to regenerate itself. Our body’s need 8 to 9 hours of sleep per night. Less than that can lead to poor concentration and cloudy thoughts.

TREATMENT

A THC-based Indica product with the trifecta of sleep terpenes (Myrcene, Linalool and Bisabolol) taken as a long-acting form of consumption (solution, capsule or tablet) should ensure a good nights’ sleep. Long-acting forms of consumption can take up to 2 hours to take effect, but the effects can last 6 to 8 hours. Myrcene is the most sedating terpene the cannabis plant produces. Combined with the relaxing properties from Linalool and Bisabolol make up the “knock-out” trifecta for sleep.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS

Medical conditions associated with inflammation, fatigue or changes in blood glucose levels can also cause mental fatigue. For example, brain fog is a symptom of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which involves persistent fatigue lasting longer than six months. Patients suffering from Fibromyalgia may also experience similar fogginess on a daily basis.

TREATMENT

Selecting a product that has at least equal parts CBD to THC along with more stimulating terpenes (Limonene and Pinene) and anti-inflammatory terpenes (Caryophyllene and Terpinolene) will help reduce the body’s inflammatory’ s response while providing some energy to combat the fatigue. CBD works well for reducing inflammation while THC can help decrease muscle spasms and tightness. Limonene and Pinene, when combined, are a stimulating combination which can help combat fatigue. Some medical conditions involve inflammation, especially auto-immune disorders. Caryophyllene and Terpinolene can act as both an analgesic and an anti-inflammatory to tackle those issues.

Brain Fog can be frustrating, but relief is possible. Ignoring the symptoms can impact one’s quality of life. Utilizing cannabis and understanding how the various aspects of cannabis can help combat the symptoms of Brain Fog can help patients get back on the road to a happier, healthier life!
