The Apothecarium’s Compassion Program is Back!

The history of the cannabis movement is forever enmeshed with compassion and care for the critically ill. To endure and manage critical and chronic illnesses is a hardship mentally, physically and financially. Compassion programs have existed since the beginning of the medical cannabis movement, lightening the load for patients by creating safe and free access to cannabis.

When our state entered the era of legalization, all of the programs that donated free cannabis for patients in need had to end. We had the difficult task of relaying the bad news to our community and it was heartbreaking for everyone involved. It was also the start of a large collaborative effort to reintroduce compassion programs.  These efforts would take two years to come to fruition. In the fall of 2019,  Governor Newsom signed the Dennis Peron and Brownie Mary Act, bringing compassion programs back to the people.

From our inception, The Apothecarium has been dedicated to supporting our community by creating empowerment through education and providing support with both dignity and respect for all of our visitors and staff. Today we’re overjoyed to announce the re-launch of The Apothecarium’s Compassion Program. This program will provide free products provided by the generosity of our vendors and will be accompanied by educational materials, resources and the opportunity to provide feedback so that we can improve their experience. Donations will be available for pick up once a month at our Market St. Castro location.
